Online Personality Quizzes

I have been spending today thinking about the scenario of "What if my favorite characters took online 'who are you' personality quizzes based on people in their universe?"

It started with Vorkosigan, for which we decided that Emperor Gregor never, ever gets Emperor Gregor in "Which Barrayaran Emperor Are You?" quizzes. (Ivan Vorpatril always gets Emperor Gregor. Miles is incapable of taking one without deliberately manipulating the answers to his advantage, even if he tries not to.)

Meanwhile, Poe Dameron always gets Leia in "Which Hero Of the Rebellion Are You" quizzes. Even if he has to get BB-8 to slice in and change the results. (BB-8 is already in there fixing things to get K-2SO, so this is no extra trouble.)

Steve Rogers absolutely never gets Captain America in "Which Avenger Are You?" quizzes, although one time he got Falcon and Sam got Captain America, and Steve bragged about this for a week straight.

Meanwhile, Bruce Wayne always gets Batman on Justice League ones. He would suspect Oracle of somehow cheating to make sure this happens, except he knows enough about computers to know that this isn't actually possible, and also it even happened on the air-gapped, built-for-purpose machine with the quiz he wrote himself for the sole purpose of not getting Batman because this is becoming a security issue, Alfred. (Clark Kent does not take them unless they have Lois Lane as a superhero option, and if they do have Lois Lane as an option he always gets Lois Lane.)

What would your favorite characters get if they took character quizzes? Do you agree with my assessments? If they're famous enough that they are an option the quiz, or if they are nerdy enough that someone in their friend group made it for their friend group, that is extra fun. Bonus if you discuss why or write out some of the actual quiz questions and which option they pick!

Haha, this is adorable. I am TOTALLY thinking that "which famous space outlaw are you?" quizzes are a thing that exists in the Guardians of the Galaxy wing of the MCU, and Peter Quill takes them incessantly trying to get Star-Lord, until someone breaks it to him that Star-Lord is not actually an option because he's not famous enough. At which point he organizes a good old-fashioned team kidnapping to steal themselves a software programmer who can write a custom version with Star-Lord and the rest of the team in it. (If the team had a hacker, they would 100% do it that way, but they're completely useless at that.)

Dark Matter meanwhile has a team of space outlaws that DOES have a hacker, so Five probably wrote the "Which famous space outlaw are you?" quiz herself, gaming things so that her friends would always get themselves. It goes viral and becomes the pop culture sensation of 2692 (or whatever the heck year it is; I don't remember).

I don't think this really works for most of my other fandoms, because they're either historical or they're not famous enough to have quizzes in which they'd be an option, or anyone on the team who is hackery enough to do it for them. (.... Okay, I can see a "Which FBI Agent Are You?" version sweeping the White Collar office for a week or two, made by some agent or another -- Jones? -- while bored using an online quiz-making site, which causes a lot of giggling behind Peter's back until either Neal gets hold of it and does terrible things to the options, or Peter finds out about it and declares that everyone has too much time on their hands ...)

Rivers of London would make for an excellent short fic, because you know Abigail has created a quiz for those in the know and now I want to know what circumstances would lead to Nightingale taking it.

In Imperial Radch, if there are "Which revolutionary member of Station Administration are you?" quizzes after the Republic of Two Systems secedes, Seivarden definitely gets Tisarwat every time and is a little upset by it.

Breq gets herself.

Cloud Strife doesn't do them any more, because he keeps getting "Sephiroth" as an answer on the "which SOLDIER are you" quizzes, even when he's trying to get "Zack Fair" or "Angeal Hewley". Once he tried one of those "which Turk are you" quizzes and came out as Rufus Shinra, which resulted in him throwing the magazine across the room so hard it left a dent in the wall (which takes some doing with a magazine).

Yuffie loves them, because she figures it's a fun way of amusing herself for a few minutes, trying to get the quizzes to come out as each of the other members of AVALANCHE in succession. Easiest is Vincent, hardest is Tifa, unless they've thrown in a gender-related question.

Marlene Wallace keeps coming out as Aerith, which charms her no end. This creeps Cloud out when he hears about it, because he's not a fool and he can see there's a destiny waiting for Marlene and it's approaching at speed. All he can do is be willing and ready to defend her against all comers.

Denzel gets "Reno" in a lot of the "which Turk are you" quizzes. He's not too sure why.

Jaime Lannister gets Stark so many times in “Which Westerosi Great House do you belong in?” that he convinces himself the quiz is broken and only has one possible answer, until he looks over Brienne’s shoulder just in time to see hers come up Dayne and then he has to go punch trees with his left hand for a while.

No matter how many different ways Petyr Baelish tries to get Tully it keeps coming up Tyrell and a couple of times Frey. He pretends he doesn’t know what Sansa’s talking about when she brings up the quiz. (When she was young she always got Baratheon, but since King’s Landing she’s always Stark.)

Robb mostly used to get Tully and occasionally Targaryen, while Jon got Stark every single time. Even after he’s known the truth for 40 years and been living in the south for decades, he STILL gets Stark.

Tyrion always comes up Targaryen, but that’s only because he wrote the quiz when he was 14, and the picture that goes with it is a pale-haired dwarf riding a dragon that he commissioned using his father’s gold. (After Tywin came up Reyne he hired hackers to track down the quiz’s author, but they never got close.)

When Danaerys gets Lannister she threatens to have Tyrion executed, and he laughs so hard he snorts wine out what remains of his nose.

Arya gets a 404 Error.

In the Gundam Wing version of "which Gundam pilot are you?", the quiz was written by a teenage magazine, so it is approximately 5% accurate. I think Quatre and Trowa get each other, Wufei gets Heero and is annoyed, Duo gets Heero and thinks it's hilarious, Relena wants to get Heero but never does, and Heero refuses to take the quiz.

In Star Trek Discovery, Michael takes the "which famous Federation captain" quiz with the sole purpose of getting Philippa, is secretly very disappointed when she doesn't and then gets rid of the evidence that she took the quiz.

Ax gets Seerow in "Which Prince Are You" quizzes and is dismayed. Later once he learns some things about Alloran (which the quiz designers knew about) and Elfangor (which they didn't) he handles it a little better.

Marco writes a "Which Animorph Are You" quiz but only in his head, since he doesn't want too many records getting out. Which is probably for the best since nobody else is very impressed by his potential answers for the "which qualities do you seek in a romantic partner" question.
