1st anniversary of Dreamwars, the DW Star Wars community

Hi everyone!

This week, Dreamwars the Star Wars fandom chat community celebrates the first year of its existence. :) Perhaps someone here might be interested in it?

Dreamwars is a low-effort place to just come and talk about Star Wars with other fans here on DW. Every week there’s a “chat corner” post with an optional discussion prompt, and people can chat the comments. That’s it! Don’t feel like talking about the prompt? You can talk about anything else, it’s an optional prompt for a reason ;) Not in a mood for SW? Just skip a week (or a month), no big deal.

The chat prompts vary quite a lot! We go through the movies, the newest shows, old Legends/EU books, general “theme topics”… as an example, these were the prompts for the last 4 chat corners:

SW can be a bit divisive and people have opinions and feelings, but the goal is to make space for everyone, and I think it’s been working pretty well this past year. :)

I definitely have to thank the participants for this - you folks are great! We’re not a big community, or a busy one, but I’d say we really are a community now.

If any of this sounds interesting, come check out this week’s chat corner :)

Reylo discussion

Hey lovely folks! This is a genuine "asking for a friend" research question. Said friend posted about this tweet. Our responses were both "damn, good for them" but also neither of us understand the appeal of Reylo. Obviously there is and people are into it, and absolutely no judgment or squee-harshing at all—this is absolute curiosity.

I'm not in SW fandom at all, though I've seen most of the movies, and am only aware that there is some fandom drama around the issue. So if you ship it or a ship with similar dynamics and feel comfortable talking about it—what's the appeal? What about it does it for you?

Community promo: Dreamwars

I don't know if this is alright to post here, if not then disregard...

I have started a new Dreamwidth community: [community profile] dreamwars, a "chat corner" style comm for Star Wars fans.

I thought it would be nice to have a low-effort place to just come and talk about all things SW here on DW ;). I'm going to make regular "chat corner" posts with an optional chat prompt, where people can come and chat about anything/everything.

I know SW can be a bit divisive and people have opinions and feelings, and I'd like the comm to accommodate it as much as possible, through the structure and the rules.

My grand plan is to always have two posts: one for general (positive to neutral) chat, and one for ranting/negativity. Beside that, I've sketched up a few rules for the comm that should help make it work for all kinds of stuff - from shitpost-y meme threads to serious discussions.

I don't know how many Star Wars fans there actually are on DW, but I know I've seen people mention it during the Snowflake Challenge, and [personal profile] goodbyebird did that friending meme for The Mandalorian a while back, so... maybe?

Anyway. I've already made the first "chat corner" post, if you want to come and have a look how it could work. :)
