I also think that JKR's Marauders are very different from how fandom always envisioned them. I was a huuuge Marauder fangirl back in the day, way before OoTP, and I just get the sense that fandom added a lot more nuance than what JK Rowling envisions. For instance, her Peter Pettigrew seems to have just been a hapless follower, whereas sometimes Marauder fandom did do that, but often made it a bit more complicated. I think on the whole they were something of a tragic hero set. Which isn't a bad thing at all (other than very sad), just so different from the direction fandom has taken them.
I definitely don't trust JK Rowling with Harry Potter anymore either, though. Which is so sad, because I was always on the defense about her decisions way back when, even though it was sometimes fandom unpopular to be. I even liked most of canon ships. But she's made creative decisions that I haven't been totally on board with in the time since.
