I have had both kinds of conversations, yes -- where I was a dilettante and they excitedly told me about obscure delights, and where I was the one producing obscure delights that confused casual fans. Heh. :)

It's always good when both kinds of conversations happen with one and the same person and you just get each other on that emotional, fannish level.
