I like the Transformative Works definition as a working idea for (transformative) fandom, but it definitely includes some things that aren't fanfic (most trivially, fanart!). And even divorced from the legal definitions that involve copyright, it's always sat kind of uncomfortably with RPF to me? According to Fanlore the OTW once had a definition that explicitly included RPF, but I can't find it now, and the bit quoted on Fanlore to include RPF from that cite seems like it's so broad that it would make basically all fiction fanfiction. (Which is ok with me though!)

You could put RPF under transformative works comfortably by defining a life as a work of art though, which I do really like just on a poetic level!
