For fandoms of open canons -
Pros: Activity whenever there's a new installment; more inspiration/ideas from the latest developments; potentially having more eyes on your fanworks and more fanworks by others to enjoy.
Cons: Anxiety over your speculations and fics being 'jossed'; anxiety over sharing controversial opinions/fanworks; pressure to formulate opinions on the latest developments on a weekly basis to stay active.
For fandoms of closed canons -
Pros: Being able to see the big picture of what canon is all about; less pressure to churn out reactions/fanworks to stay active; convenience of binge-watching.
Cons: Less activity; fewer engaged fans as people start drifting away to new canons.
How do you divide your time?

Date: 2018-12-17 02:38 am (UTC)I ended up creating a community for it on DW just in case someone comes in from Tumblr and is still into it, but so far no one's posted anything or commented on anything I've posted, so it's like talking into the void, lol
I feel tempted to also do the same for a fandom that has 0 new fanworks since around 2010. It'll at least be a handy resource page for anyone interested. These fandom latecomers do exist, as I've seen on tumblr where I get a series of likes on gifsets for shows that aired 1-2 years ago. Without expectations on when these latecomers would show up, I can find some enjoyment in just creating into the void for the fun of it, but maybe that's just me ><
