Fic because of actors

Is there a general term for the sort of thing represented by "Teninch" fic, where people put together random characters played by Billie Piper and David Tennant other than Rose and the Doctor? I have been browsing Hitchhiker's Guide fic for a couple of days and have run across both Sherlock and Khan in fics which I therefore assume have Martin Freeman's Arthur Dent in mind, since they have both been played by Benedict Cumberbatch.

I don't know a word for this but it's such a clear (and old) phenomenon that it feels like there has to be one!

I've called it Actor Reuse, and it's a subcategory of crossover.

I've been partial to it regarding Steve Rogers|Captain America and Johnny Storm|Torch, but I'm amused by it variously.

I can see that it's the same kind of phenomenon, but I'm not sure that's 100% accurate. I think an example of that would be "Arthur Dent meets John Watson, (because) both played by Martin Freeman". What I'm thinking of is like, "getting ideas for pairings/putting characters together in a fic because the actors who played them were both in this other thing".

eta: Wow, that sounds kind of confrontational. Not my intent. Intended tone is like, "Mmmm, kinda but maybe not exactly?"

Ah, sorry. It was "two actors played characters on series Z, both actors eventually went to series Q, and their characters, despite not having met, or even possibly being antagonistic, are shipped or behave like they've already known each other for a lifetime." Is that more like what you meant?

What I had in mind was crossing over characters from otherwise unrelated fandoms because there also existed some fandom which a given pair/set had both been in. Like, A and B both played characters in series X, so let's now cross over A's character from series Y with B's character from series Z, even though there's not any other relation between series Y and Z.

Oh, so "Captain Picard and the Tenth Doctor get crossed over because Patrick Stewart and David Tennant were in Hamlet together, despite there never being an official Doctor Who/Star Trek crossover" (to that point, anyway, as there have been some comic ones and the like.)

So, less 'Stephen Strange meets Sherlock Holmes/ dates Molly Hooper/why is there Hannigram in my DS fic tag?', more 'Everstrange, which is a pairing for some ungodly reason'. And while I know this happens in other places (there's an extended Mads Mikkelsen/Hugh Dancy vortex that spans everything they ever breathed on, including marvel, for example), I cannot help but notice that BC keeps turning up in these discussions.

(Benedict Cumberbatch plays both Sherlock (BBC Sherlock) and Stephen Strange (mcu); Martin Freeman plays both John (BBC Sherlock) and General Ross (mcu), ergo Stephen Strange and Everett Ross are now A Thing despite never having met each other on screen and also probably being antagonistic in motivation.) (The Extended Hannigram Vortex is possibly the one case that's worse than Johnlock Meta Soulmating, since both Mad Mikkelsens and Hugh Dancy's filmografies are All Over The Place eclectic as hell, which is how you get fics about an evil wizard from the MCU dating the murderous cult-leader from the Amazon Drama The Path because a cannibal serial killer and an FBI profiler couldn't stop being gay at each other in 2015) (I fucking love fandom)

Half of that went over my head, but yes, I think Everstrange could qualify, although when I encounter this is isn't always pairings.

eta: Although in Everstrange it appears they are from the same fandom to start with, whereas what I had in mind when I posted this was definitely crossover territory. Seems like there are some overlapping phenomena here.

Everett Ross is in the CIA as is/was Sharon Carter (since I can't say she still is after getting Steve and Sam their gear back) while General Thunderbolt Ross was/is Army and played most recently by William Hurt. (Which means we could have some sort of crossover between Sneakers and Children of a Lesser God, or any other two movies.)

Though, Smaug and Gollum having a caper hinging on a degrees of separation would be quacktacular. (Since Freeman and Gollum's actor were the Tolkien white guys in Black Panther, and BC played Smaug as well as Sherlock Holmes.)

Is there a Comedy of Errors that's Science Fiction Fan-nip? (CF the Hamlet where Patrick Stewart, Lala Ward, Glitz's actor and probably many more are studded in the BBC production.)

Now I want Sam Carter & Sharon Carter fic. Or, Sam Carter and Sam Wilson. Chris Evans and Amanda Tapping could do a project together.

However, just to check -- the Split OTPs wasn't what you meant?

I think they must be a subcategory. It looks like all Split OTPs would qualify, but what I'm thinking of are not necessarily Split OTPs. Like for example, in the Teninch arena, you do get a lot of "Rose + this other character David Tennant played". But then you also get "Bella from Bella and the Boys + Campbell Bain from Takin' Over the Asylum", which were never a pairing in the first place but seem to have been put together because the real OTP in the fanficcer's head is David + Billie.
