Here's the full updated bracket/match schedules after round one!

I'm going to call it now, if Yuletide can survive against Marvel this round, I think it has a good chance of taking the whole pot.

I will be posting Round 2 in two sets of 8, probably both about 24 hours from now, and you'll have 24 hours to vote. After that we'll roll right into Round 3 and then the quarter-finals, one per day. I want to encourage people, especially as we get into the later rounds, to lobby for their favorites - there will still be voters who don't know any of the fandoms well and have a chance to be swayed!

I kind of want Yuletide to win, given that no fandom and original work both got knocked out, and I feel that there is something truly fannish about there not being a one true fandom.

ETA: Woot! original work is still there! But up against OFMD; argh.

I am rooting for both Original Work and Yuletide! I think Original Work might have a slightly tougher path. But it would be hilarious if they end up against each other in the final.

It's the only matchup where I even care about both, and Yuletide definitely wins for me. (Not the least because plenty of Marvel fandoms are also Yuletide-sized!)

Right? You vote for Yuletide, you're basically just voting for the good parts of Marvel and eliminating the annoying ones.

I do like some of the big Marvel fandoms, as well as some of the not-that-big-but-still-above-Yuletide-size ones. But I stil like Yuletide better. :p

Dragon Age vs. the Witcher

Oh, dear. I've been in the fandoms for both game trilogies.

Well, they both involve a backstory where people ingest horrifying concoctions during potentially lethal ceremonies in order to join a weird semi-mercenary band of off-brand humans (or elves, or dwarves) in order to fight monsters?

Yuletide vs. Marvel

One of these is a large event that happens frequently, with many of the same participants but also a share of newcomers being introduced. It has a lot of hype and a lot of people unclear why there's hype. It has its own culture and mythology and has led to a lot of spinoffs.

The other is Marvel.

It was extremely tempting to do all the descriptions in that format *exactly*, except in a lot of them I couldn't decide which fandom got to be the 'other'...

I apparently spaced completely on 1c and 1d, but many of the things I was going to vote for made it through all the same, so good job, other fans!

This one is going to be easier for me in so many places, because I have definite opinions. If they all go on to the next round, that's when things will start getting tough to make decisions between.

Oh my gods, it's the Kingdom Hearts match-up.

Oooh these are some fun match ups. I’m definitely rooting for Yuletide, which is basically “ever single fun little fandom you can imagine”.

Some of these feel a bit generation vs generation which is kind of cool.
